Thirty of forty years ago a vinyl recording was sold of Prof. Tolkien reading this and other selections from the Lord of the Rings. Have you heard it, by chance? On this passage his voice is a little slurred and he sounds, frankly, like he'd spent a little too much time at The Prancing Pony. But the passage is still rousing and glorious. Thanks for the reminder.
Milton, where could you find something like that???? I'd love love to get hold of a recording. I have a cassette tape of C.S. Lewis giving a couple of lectures by radio broadcast in the 50's. Tolkien would be a great addition to have!
It's been 30 years since I came across the record (vinyl LP), but I'm pretty sure it was *JRR Tolkien Reads and Sings His The Lord of the Rings*. It's on sale right now at eBay, item number 320196595631.
