Bruton Parish-Grisaille Stage 1

First stage on Bruton Parish.  As you can see, there is very little detail at this point.  Kind of like when you move into a new home, your first task is to get the furniture inside and rearange later.

This is a relatively easy painting, but the canopy on the right was (is) a pain!   I got the idea from studying Vermeer.  He liked to put big objects, such as tablecloths, curtians, etc. in foreground in order to establish depth.  This is my attempt to do the same.  I also like the contrast of the extremely permament nature of the church building (learn more about Bruton Parish here) and the temporary nature of the market canopy.   I spent one hour on this.
