Whatchutalkinboutchris...?

I remember a conversation with my neighbor several years back, a Ms. B_____. She was quite angry that I had repeatedly dismissed her requests to keep our family cat contained within our house. "Can't you just tell that cat to come inside," she said. The cat, on several occasions had "did her bidness" on Ms. B____'s new concrete driveway. I apologized and volunteered to clean up any, uhmm... inconvenience. I tried to explain to Ms. B_____ how hard it was to talk a cat into re-entering the house once he/she has escaped. You just cannot talk good sense to felines. "We are at the cat's mercy." I told her. The cat would come in when either it, A.) got hungry, or B.) got too cold. She asked me if I had ever considered putting a leash on the cat. Of course at the time, I thought the idea was completely ridiculous. But now I know better. Click here to find out more on cat leashing.

this is why I'm a dog person--I've got nothing personally against cats, but dogs are trainable, and cats, well, they don't really care for that.

My dog is happy to see me whether I'm gone for five minutes or five hours--cats are just, well, different animals.

Can't say I've ever seen anyone "walk" they're cat, but I'll be on the lookout!

I had a great cat once -- Tigger. She was great because she seemed to think she was a dog. She did all the normal cat stuff -- purring, rubbing, etc., but she actually came when you called her. She knew her name, and she responded like a dog. She could be outside all day, and I would walk outside, call her name, and she'd come running from wherever she was hiding. Also, she never got on the furniture, counters, etc. She would sit at my feet as I sat on the couch. If I invited her up, she would gladly come, but she never presumed. She also never scratched furniture, curtains, etc, like most cats. She was amazing!!! Oddly enough, she had been a stray that just showed up at my house. When my dad came home from work, she ran out to greet him in our yard and rolled around like a dog greeting her owner. I had Tigger for many years and was so sad when she died after a long life. Not sure I will ever get another cat because there's no way another one like Tigger exists!

I have to side with Ms B. We once lived next door to a girl who LOVED cats and had many, many cats. The cats loved my porch and my roof and my backyard. In fact, they were around my home more than their own!

I agree with Dan- cats are a little arrogant. And Jen, you wrote a great analogy of someone I once dated-(except for the death part) HA!

Generally, I don't like cats. A friend of mine used to call them heat-leaches. However the cat who violated Ms.B_____'s driveway is a nice cat. Her name is Sugar and she still lives at my mom's. She's about 12 years old now and probably would not wear a leash even on a good day!
